yanhong's week 4,5,6,7 reflection

For Week 4, ms jean taught us on tweening but i did not attend therefore i did not use any tween for my ecourseware because i did not sure how to do it. However, i did download the content from olive and look through the content in it.

Week 5: I am still working on my ecourseware as i aim to finish by week 6. All i left is to create quiz and game. I only used hot potatoes to do it as it is the only software i am good at. I wanted to finish fast and improve on my ecourseware's design.

Week 6: In this week, I manage to finish my game and quiz. The quiz questions are mostly reference from my tutorial worksheet as I can only think of knowledge type question. For my game, i tried to create a hangman game that i found online using flash but i did not succeed. Therefore, due to time constraint, all i can think of is to use hot potatoes to create a crossword puzzle.

Week 7: All  I left to do is the usability testing and to post the evaluation on blog. Also, I tried to improve my design for my ecourseware. I wanted to put more image and animation but i cannot think of anyway to link it to what i wanted to do. For example, there are no image and animation that are related to dbis.

* Sorry for posting late

Eugene's Evaluation on Usability Testing

Reflection:
After completing the e-Courseware and finding people to do the survey. I realized that there are some thing that i have to change. Indeed, it is an iterative process which requires the instructional designer to keep changing the things until it is perfect which needs to meet the students needs and likes. But however due to the time constraint and the project requirement,  we don't need to do the process twice. But i did make a few adjustments like putting in some keywords that say "drag" to the right for the game.

After surveying 6 people. Different people prefer different things. some might prefer to have lots of navigation buttons so that they can control on what they are able to click or prefer less text or more information or even more things to interest them. 1 of my survey participants find the e-courseware very stressful as it is like forcing her to do and lose interest after a while but this is what the minority thinks. while majority will prefer learning on the e-courseware as they can take their own time and pace.

Survey Results out of 6 participants
1) Was the information presented clearly and understandable? Is it sufficient?
Score: 6/6 for Yes

2)Were the images/games and drawings useful?
Score: 6/6 for Yes

3) Was the information interesting and, most importantly, motivating?
Score: 5/6 for Yes
The reason for saying No is: Feel like I was forced to memorize, lost interest in trying after awhile.

4)Do you benefit anything after going through the e-learning courseware? If yes? In what way? If no? why?
Multiple Reasons for giving an answer Yes is:
Give us freedom on what we want to click
Sentence is short and sweet

5)Do you think that there is need for any improvement?
Ans: Put more Information
A Demo to play the game
More Pictures

6)What do you find the most important thing that attracted you in learning  the e-courseware?
Ans: Games
Pictures, games is least important
Tutorials, games is least important

Process:
1) Seek friends for opinions - Throughout doing the project, i have asked some of my friends to give me some opinions about the design via Whatsapp or even face to face. Is it aesthetically pleasant for them? Is it nice to put the buttons here and are you able to know which are the buttons? How about the game do you know how to play it? All this non formal survey questions allow me to make more improvements while doing.

2) Seek teacher for opinions - not only asking for friends for opinions, but i have also asked ms jean for a few opinions like about the design, about the contents. The difficult process is when the design for the slides is not as nice for the first time where i only have buttons shaped as a brain and the slides on a white rectangle, then i decided to change it to a human silhouette with a brain for the slides and buttons but then the focus is on the buttons not the slides so I've decide to seek for opinion then change into the final one which is a human silhouette with brains and slides in a white opacity rectangle background of 70% and the brain shaped buttons. It is a tough process shaping the buttons and the brains over and over again but it is still worth it as i really hope that my project could get a better grade.

3) Improving my work - I spend half a day trying to make the sound stop at other / external swf and it's only a few lines of codes. I tried different method like stopAllSound(), stop(), removeChild(), removing the loader, and finally SoundMixer.

Eugene's Reflection for Week 7

Week 7 is the week where i need to finish up my instructional design project and give people to evaluate. The most difficult thing about doing the flash file is that, i can't really get the design right. Therefore, trial and error is a must. From having a plain slides on square rectangles and brains as buttons, to changing the plain slides on a brain shape and ugly buttons to the final piece on designing a silhouette of a human head with brains and with slides on a rectangle background with opacity of 70% with colorful brains as background.

Finally the evaluation part and i can present my work next week. The last post will be on the evaluation and im done.

Eugene's Reflection for Week 6

The first lesson for week 6 is where we recapped on the bloom's taxonomy. The bloom's taxonomy is for us to create our assessment part for the e-courseware. I didn't know that it's so difficult to think and create questions that fulfills different categories, such as a knowledge question or an application question. Other than assessments, I am almost done with my e-courseware, now it's left with the sound of the slides section and i can start on the evaluation.

Eugene's Reflection for week 5

This week is a week for me to rush out the slides section for the ecourseware i am designing. I managed to apply what i have learned last week and put it into my project. The hide and show button is implemented into my project. It took me like half a day to think about the coding part as it's different due to having only 1 button. i want it to show and hide. In the end i use the if-else statement to make it work. I'm trying to complete the tutorial by this week using hot potatoes and maybe change abit of the layout as i find it too plain.

Eugene's Reflection for Week 4

For the earlier lesson from 9 to 11am - we continue to do quiz using flash from last week, but in this lesson, we have to create one question on our own in order to remember what we have done last week, we learn how to apply the input text box into the lab example of the quiz and to get the total score. I'm sure will be helping in the project.

For the lesson from 2pm to 6pm - we learn how to do tweening, we were trying out how to tween the movieclip like enlarging/ minimize/hide/show/rotate and changing the opacity of the images using codes. Need to search for codes online and try to implement it into the file.

Yanhong's week 3 reflection

In this week, we learn how to create a simple e-learning web using adobe flash. Even though it should be an easy task as we should have lots of experience in coding and using the tools, I still find it not an easy task for me. But, I think that I am getting the hang of it. For my e-learning, it is confirm that I am using flash and only flash to do it. Also, I find that I can cope better in a small class. Last but not least, since ms Jean taught us how to create a quiz in flash, I decide not to use hot potato anymore.
